CBTRUS Statistical Report: Primary Brain and Central Nervous System Tumors Diagnosed in the United States in 2011-2015

This report was prepared by the CBTRUS executive team and the research staff affiliated with the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine under the direction of Jill Barnholtz-Sloan, PhD. The CBTRUS data presented in this report were provided through an agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR). In addition, CBTRUS used data from the research data sets of the National Cancer Institute, Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program. CBTRUS acknowledges and appreciates these contributions to this report and to cancer surveillance in general and in particular to the efforts of the hospital tumor registrars, the central cancer registries, and the staff from the NPCR and SEER programs whose efforts to collect accurate and complete data have made this report possible.

We are also grateful to the four neuropathologists, Drs. Janet Bruner, Roger McLendon, Tarik Tihan, and Daniel Brat, who reviewed the CBTRUS histology grouping scheme, to our Consulting Research Director, Dr. Nancy Stroup, and our Consulting Neuropathologist, Dr. Janet Bruner who answered our questions and provided feedback throughout the year, to our Board of Directors and Advisors who reviewed this report, and especially Dr. Hoda Anton-Culver, Dr. Elizabeth Claus, and Reda J. Wilson, and to Shirley Stewart and Nicole Willmarth who helped with final editing.
